BRIEF WRITING STUDIO WORKSHOP

//

Notes from the brief writing exercise, studio workshop, as delivered by course administrator, Fred Bates on 28th September 2012.

//

- Always bring in folder to crit sessions- keep up to date with paper work and ORGANISED.

QUESTIONS (AS PROPOSED BY TABLE TO ASK FRED DURING TASK)

//

- Will the presentation boards for the module (3-6 A2) be expected to be in print or digital format?
- Is the design context book/bibliography for the Design Context/OUGD301 module/FMP or for the entire course/Level 06?
- To clarify, should three dimensional product outcomes be submitted where appropriate with A2 submission boards?
- On the module outcomes grading, please define and clarify... "the limited knowledge...within Graphic Design..."
- Should the module require a rationale and bibliography for each brief, or an overarching one for the entire module?
- To what extent should we write a bibliography- resource links to extensive contextulisation research posts.

//

- Next week we will be looking at the briefs and planning for our deadline.
- In the bibliography, we will produce a document which has informed our general practice and information and we have to have a bibliography for each module.
- Write rationale for both the individual briefs and the overarching modules- generally where you're heading, and how each brief fulfils the needs and what you're doing and why you're doing them.
- File is useful for information you can't put in your blog (level of confidentiality or don't have permission for interviewee, etc.)
- Print out all presentation boards (3-6 A2 per brief), creating PITCH BOARDS.
- Book a print slot for 8th, 9th, 10th December.
- Prep presentation boards at the end of each brief (time saving, get printed and safe)

BY WEDNESDAY

//

- Have a business card up and a piece of promotional material to talk about who you are as a designer (mailout, booklet, etc), 9:00am pinned up on board behind macs.
- Bring ALL the briefs to the session and develop our rationale, consider how we will plan our time.
- Bring ideas and reference material for the briefs- come in with concepts/ideas and notes/images/development.
