This morning, we had a critique workshop session with tutor Fred- exploring our 150 logos, and recieving feedback from fellow students about the visual communication of our work and design development.
We started with our 150 logos, and chose the ten logos we felt had the most potential for development, and were strong concepts as a whole.
MY CHOSEN TEN
* FILM (Film Reel)
* Ahoy (Lifering)
* Octopus 'O'
* Family (Rope)
* Shark Fin 'O'
* Action Starburst
* Writer page break
* 'Dad' 'tache
* Pen with 'W'
* 'O' with waves
We then switched tables around the room to evaluate fellow classmates work. It was really interesting to see the ideas of others, and how they had developed from their initial written points and ideas.
Returning to my desk, I was really pleased with the feedback left (by classmates Eddie, Luis, Michael, etc.). I had no real preference of the logos, and felt very open about adapting or developing any of them. The one they chose as a particular favourite was the 'O' with waves (image featured above).
FEEDBACK
* Really liked the illustrative ones, but this one would work best as a logo. The others might not be as effective when scaled down.
* Nice use of symbols and shapes.
* Simple and effective.
* Would work really well for this brief, using different print methods like foils or embossing.
* Can see the logo working well on virtually any product.
* Maybe add some type because on it's own it could mean a number of things (incorporate within the logo).
TASK
With the chosen logo, we were given a task (to be completed by next Wednesday, 9.30am), to "package our GOOD".
Given four different formats (selected nets which include an envelope, a bottle carrier, a locking fold folder, and a pocket fold folder) we have to incorporate our designs and logos into the nets, to research, develop and print packaging designs.
By Wednesday we need to produce the four seperate printed designs with a supporting body of research (I'm aiming to develop the logo x50 and each packaging x25- though I would like to create more, time permitting).
Mock up, practice...multiple designs.
Trace and draw nets to practice and continue improving hand-rendering skills (the PDFs of the nets will be available on the VLE).
Can scale up the designs to make them larger, can cut holes, deconstruct, etc...but they must maintain their structural format.
TWO COLOURS (MAX) PLUS STOCK ONLY.
Consider the stock choices... but don't break the bank (no laser printer paper, mind...)
