Design Production- Print/Printed Media.

In response to today's workshop and seminar with tutor Lorenzo (see PPD blog for more details) I have sourced three examples of print-based media in preperation for next Tuesday's session.

The 2011-12 museum programme for the 'Henry Moore Institute' in the center of Leeds. I believe that this would have been printed using offset lithography, due to a reasonable amount of numbers (however, it could be printed digitally also- one to ask about). Print finishes include foil blocking of typography and other small features at the top of the front page in metallic silver foils. A small feature, with high percentage increase- but makes a big visual impact.

An information flyer from Leeds' Reetsweet Arts & Craft Fair (Illustrations and Design by Steph Baxter). I believe this was printed using the method of offset lithography, as the printing quality is good, and was produced at a reasonably high volume (in the hundreds- thousands).

Slightly different to the two examples above, I believe that this issue of 'Computer Arts' magazine would have been printed using the  gravure method, as this is used for high volumes of prints in a durable and high-quality finish, such as this publication. The magazine has also been finished with spot varnishes on the cover which add a subtle, yet luxurious finish.
