Print Workshop Introduction at Blenheim Walk.

My second session of screenprinting in the past week, today, a morning session at the Blenheim Walk building (where the graphic design studio is based) for both paper and fabric screenprinting (as well as other facilities available such as digital fabric printing, heat transferring, etc.)

We looked at some existing examples of printed design- and each piece was explained to us- how it was designed, the methods and processes used to print- a really interesting variation of styles and acrylic colours used.

I particularly like the design (above) with the silver screenprint design against the black card- the foiling-like effect making the design look quite luxurious and alluring.
With screens pre-prepared, we went on, in a small group (consisting of Yafet, Baljeet, Kirsty, Francesca and I) to screenprint intructional guides about the print making facilities in the building. We used the CMYK halftone print method- layering up cyan, magenta, yellow and key acrylics (combined with paper binder) to layer up and create a multi-tonal guide.

...The finished design. Unfortunately, cutting my hot dog fold booklet last meant that I was left with the most hap-hazardly printed design- not quite aligned and slightly wonky, but it was great to see what we could achieve together in such a short space of time (around two hours).

The past week has really inspired me to screenprint more- and I intend to experiment with this process a lot more in current projects- particularly the 'what is a line' and 'communication is a virus' brief, where the outcome would be very appropraite to the designs.
