Design Practice III//15/10/12 Briefing Notes.
Notes from today's briefing with programme leader, Fred Bates, specifically in regards to the OUGD301 Design Practice III module.
//
NOTES
- Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday are progress tutorial dates (individual).
- Specify outcomes to be produced from each project for tutorial/crit (CRITS NEXT WEEK).
- Sign up for 30 minute tutorial- Andy/Tuesday, Amber/Wednesday, Amber/Phil/Andy//Thursday.
- Studio printers are now set up, substrate tests not complete- only print on paper and thin cards- no acetates or plastics.
- Think PRODUCT, RANGE, DISTRIBUTION within project outcomes.
- Write about target audience, branding and brand identity.
- Consider ALL collateral.
- Product AND proposal.
- Be ambitious, yet realistic.
- What are we producing, what are we proposing?
- Consider the briefs I NEED to do now to represent myself as a designer.
- NO MORE THAN TWO COLLABORATIONS.

BRANDING CONSIDERATIONS
- Print, format, process, colour production.
- Look at what each brief will offer me and what I'll get out of it... product/research/"play brief" (doing what you do best).
- What are the briefs offering me from my rationale and make sure they are diverse- is each one developing me differently somehow?
- Make decisions through design.
- Have prototypes and products ready to show for tutorials and crits and keep blogs up to date.
ALSO
- Look at YCN page for opportunities... YCN student ambassador?
//
NOTES TO SELF
- Discuss the notion of dropping 'Freebees' project with Phil in individual tutorial for substantial YCN brief.
- Change rationale to 'Create conceptual and innovative branding, balancing skills in both image-driven and typographic design, working with clients on an individual and personalised basis with regards and consideration for ethical and sustainable design outcomes'.
- Nervous about a research brief at this stage, not enough time for development- write off Freebees? Not experienced enough with packaging, intimidating stuff.
- Slightly confused about my development from this point- unsure as to briefs, advice needed.
