A year on from initially proposing creating the brand identity for friend and Cardiff University student, James Maxwell's Architecture design practice, I finally started generating some potential logo developments today.
James' work is focused on robust and contemporary interior architecture, inspired by designers such as David Chipperfield and Thomas Heatherwick. After an initial experimentation, I took inspiration from Thomas Heatherwick's acclaimed geometric bridge design (found here) for a geometry-inspired design using James' initials, 'J' and 'M', and also taking note of previous conversations with James in which we determined his preference of geometric, sans serif typefaces such as Gotham, Century Gothic and Futura which would work well in balance as body copy for letterheads, business cards and his design portfolio.
After only spending a short amount of time generating potential designs, I was really pleased with the progression made and am looking forward to creating vector-based designs over the next couple of days and hopefully receiving some really constructive feedback that will help me to progress successfully with the product outcomes over the next few weeks.
