Design Practice III//Contact From The Natural History Museum.

A few days ago, I received a reply from the administration at The Natural History Museum in regards to a honeybee/hive photographic request I had originally sent to the wildlife department to help support my FreeBees Honey Project.
Despite since dismissing the project at this point of the year (and within the Design Practice III module), it was great to hear back from the museum, and despite the £60 admin fee being a little pricey at this point (considering it would be used for student, and not commercial use), it was really interesting to find out about the potential opportunity for future projects and contact, and something I will certainly keep in mind.

Design Practice III//Brief Re-shuffling.

*IMPORTANT NOTICE*

Since the feedback and group crit session last week, I have been considering my briefs in great detail.
Despite being sure of all the products, deliverables and target audiences for the majority of my briefs, the Freebees Honey brief was a bit of an anomaly within my briefs, at couldn't seem to find a resolve.

Also, due to the nature of the research- driven brief, at this time I don't feel as though I have enough time within the module to pursue my ambitions, and in balance with all my other briefs, achieve a standard that I would be pleased with.

As a result, I have decided to postpone the brief to a later date, and to replace the significant brief with the YCN competition brief, as of yet unreleased/unspecified, but will certainly consider taking on the Freebees brief as one of my six significant Final Major Project briefs.

I will go on to resubmit my re-written rationale and submission form, and be sure to discuss it with Phil in my group tutorial, and with my designated tutor and group in my next group crit session.

Design Practice III//Freebees//Contacting The Natural History Museum.

Although I have recently been in talks with a friend, Ellie, whose Father is a beekeeper, today, I also decided to contact the Natural History Museum in London in regards to potentially visiting to photography their hives this month for the publication and photographic development of my Freebees promotional and ethical not-for-profit honey company which I am proposing for one of my project, in the way of a contingency plan.

Hopefully, the Museum would provide a great source of research and inspiration, as well as a stunning display and variety of honeybees, which would be a perfect source of documentation for the research-driven brief.
More design developments and research can be found throughout my Design Context and Design Practice blog.

Design Practice III//Freebees Honey//Graph Papers.

Beginning to develop my own hexagonal graph paper for potential typeface development for the Freebees honey brief or potential wrap-around packaging design for future product design developments. Just keeping it quite simple for now- not perfect, but the range of size grids should help in terms of design development.

Design Practice III//Hand Rendered Logos.

Over the weekend, I started working on creating a series of hand rendered logos to ensure I kept up with my traditional methods of visual communication and hand rendered illustration.
For the briefs selected, I had a new challenge in terms of the majority of the branding/logo design being specified as typographically- lead, which was something a little alien to me, but I'm really keen to develop and learn more about. Written below, a short evaluation/view of each of the logos, and the direction I hope to follow, and will be shown in future posts on my Design Practice blog.

UNIVERSITY OF LEEDS BALLET SOCIETY

- Liking a possible Art Deco contemporary style, something to potentially pursue?
- Uppercase
- Smaller pt size for 'University of Leeds', makes the society name more apparent/in focus
- Contemporary, clean, sans serif
- Try + kerning, looks more modern

JESSIE LEONG PHOTOGRAPHY

- Uppercase, clean, modern, fashion
- Full name: Jessie Leong Photography
- Bold, eye catching, high-end

ORANGE JUICE

- Black/Bold, uppercase
- Slight 1980's retro feel/influence, yet still contemporary

FREEBEES

- Script and contemporary sans serif type combined
- One logo that can be translated over a range of products

Design Practice III//Negotiated Briefs//Honey Gift Set.

BRIEF IV// HONEY GIFT SET

The finalised initial brief for the Honey Gift Set packaging brief, proposed as one of my ten negotiated briefs. Working as a research and skills- driven brief to create a range of both printed/packaging outcomes for the and to help promote the endangered honeybees within the United Kingdom, more information and research can be found on my Design Context blog.
