Communication is a Virus: Conversations and Planning.

Today, Liam, Yafet and I (Sadly Sadie and Michael were unable to attend for pre-determined reasons) got together to talk about the progression of our project, our concepts and ideas.

From an online discussion, we agreed that the problem to

"Get people to lie more convincingly"

would be the right way for our group to go- it could be light-hearted, fun, and could target a wide and varied audience.

After we had each gone away to do our seperate research, we re-grouped to discuss our ideas.

Liam and Yafet had been researching "black and white lies"- hurtful lies against harmless ones, whereas I had been focusing more on body languages- and how to read lies (therefore, how to avoid giving off these signals and not being caught!)- therefore, we decided to come up a combined effort and discussed these points...

-Who are we trying to address to?
-What is our tone of voice?
-How will be distribute/promote our design?
-What colour scheme is appropraite?
-Type and/Or Image?
-Who is responsible for what within the group?

Possible topics/themes...

-Body language and behaviour lie detector/lie convincor- a guide of how to convince people that you're truthful (when you're actually lying).
-Check list for liars: what to do, and what not to do.
-How to call their bluff.
-Focus on body langauge- how not to get caught- to avoid nervous hands, keep your hands in your pockets- to avoid anyone hearing a loud heartbeat, carry around a boom box and turn it up to eleven...
-a check list for "disguising" your lies- "the liars first aid kit".

Although we liked some of the ideas we were generating, the focus seemed a little lost- who was our target market?
We talked about the professions in which people would lie, and situations whereupon adults might lie- but felt that we were at risk of being immoral or cruel with our design purpose- we wanted to produce something light-hearted and entertaining, not a guide on how to decieve your husband/wife/client you're representing in court...! etc, etc.

After reviewing our research, and talking about existing designs, we felt that children were going to be our most suited target audience- common fibbers, we've all been there- and we could really have the oppurtunity to create something silly, playful and eye-catching to maintain attention of a younger audience.

OUR IDEA SO FAR...

-create a children's guide of how to get away with lieing- a two stage instruction book with various double-page spreads...the first with the scenario...eg...

"jr...did you eat the last biscuit from the cookie jar again?!"

and on the opposite page...

"before you fib, quickly wipe the corners of your mouth to remove all biscuit crumbs!"

Possible methods of distribution/promotion...

-Books (Concertina Fold [doubles up as a wall chart banner], Perfect Binding, Japanese Stab Binding, Swatch Book Style, etc).
-Mailshot directing to...
-Website
-Blog
-Posters
-Photographic

Ideally, we would like to produce at least one print medium product and one web- therefore giving us the widest scope and audience possible.

Tomorrow, we will go on to discuss our ideas further, deligate responsibilities within the group, decide upon a "House Style" (colours, styles of type/image, etc), and start to create our 3 A2 presentation sheets for the crit on Friday morning, each sheet for: concept, content, and method of delivery.
