Design Practice III//Print Workshop I.

Notes from today's technical print workshop with technician, Mike Flowers.

NOTES

- Always choose 'New Document' in InDesign, 'Book' is only used as a series of connected documents, common assets (swatches, type, etc).
- Page size is the finished, printed, trimmed size of the document.
- When producing work commercially, ask the printer what the bleed measure should be.
- Primary text frame.. Placeholder text flows, all text pages link together, can import bulk text and fill document. Very useful in editorial design.
- Start page number- the first page whichever number you choose.
- Blue line around page- slug (fold marks, crop marks, etc- can be sent through to print). Can help for bookbinding/page numbering.

- PS, Place images in Id
- AI- Place or copy and paste images in Id
- PS- 300dpi, CMYK or Greyscale. TIFF files or PSD NOT JPEG files. Make ACTUAL size required in Indesign (prepare beforehand accordingly, don't lower resolution or create processing faults through resizing in Indesign).
- AI- CMYK, colours are in gammut. Save as AI file or copy and paste artwork into Indesign.
- Link info will show you all about the resolution, colour space, etc.
- Press Alt + double click image link and it will open up from it's source (PSD/AI)

- Links palette gives info re scale.
- Can send work to professional print as either packaged items or PDFs.
