NOTES

- Submit form from today's session next week (Friday)- formal point of contact of intent for this module.
- Sign up on Friday (groups of 5, Fred/Amber, Tues/Weds/Thurs) for group tutorials.
- Andy in Tuesday, Phil in Thursday (studio, utilise them and their time!).
- Evaluate our progress against our initial intentions- always updating and refining.
- Rationale overview (developing body for briefs, and then summary of each brief).
- Research form- documented bibliography- things you intend to do, and things you have already done. Propose visits, books, etc. Create a COMPREHENSIVE DOCUMENT.
- Always document and evaluate change.
- Make decisions about timetabling and structure.

(Image Above) Collection of PDF notes from the evaluated ISTD briefs of 2011, which are regarded as our aim and "benchmark" for successful brief writing, and also noting and adapting our briefs, as shown through the list sections below* as we start to consider the writing of our rationales).

*EXAMINE AND ADAPT BRIEFS

LIST OF 4: (Categories to look at, exploring/developing understanding)

- Skills allowed to develop
- Contexts to explore (design sectors...ethics, etc)
- Content to research
- Products to develop
- Cross section 'wants and needs' on skills sheet with brief skill outcomes

(Image Above) During one of today's tasks, we cross referenced skills to apply from our briefs (see PDF above) to our wants/needs sheets we worked on earlier in the week. I was really pleased to find that I had some great matches, often with all four of my chosen briefs matching up with the required skills. In a few circumstances, however, there were no matches, but this was purely because the skill (want/need) wasn't specific to the module, and would be something for me to explore either independently or as part of my FMP module brief.

NOTE TO SELF:

- Scan in rationale sheets
- Photograph cross-sectioning on wants and needs sheet
- Photograph and blog promotional print wall (Fred approves)

Briefs are either... SKILLS, CONTENT OR PRODUCT DRIVEN

- Start to "join the dots" with our briefs in relation to skills/content/products and our dissertation.
- Keep evaluating and developing our briefs- FOR EACH BRIEF... complete this sentence...

"A... investigation of... with a focus on... " (see sheets)

E.g, "A TYPOGRAPHIC INVESTIGATION OF BRANDING WITH A FOCUS ON RETAIL".

//

Information needed for submission sheet/tasks:

- Write up a definitive statement for each brief (by tomorrow) and add... I am going to... because...
(this will provide me with the WHAT and the WHY... rationale)

EG "DEVELOP THE PRINTED PROMOTION... BECAUSE THIS WILL ALLOW ME TO DEVELOP MY PRINT AND TYPE SKILLS:

Then... Identify the... PRODUCT/RANGE/DISTRIBUTION
