24. Lie on the surface.

25. Displace water.

TASK III// RELATED OBJECTS (IMAGES)

1. DUCK

Perhaps not that interesting as an animal itself- though the motion, and the movement that ducks make on the water could make for a strong visual communicator?

2. BREAD

http://www.healthymealplans.biz/wp-content/uploads/2009/Bread-Types.jpg

Obviously not a great example- bread not floating on the water- not a lot of potential in the idea, but good to exhaust all potential avenues nevertheless.
3. BOAT

The bobbing motion on the water produced by the momentum of the boat upon the water could be quite interesting as a "float" motion- could play around with the anchor points as well as the positioning of the word as a whole, or the separate letterforms- manipulating the "current" produced by the waves and the steadiness of the word through the "boat".

4. FOAM SWIMMING LESSON FLOATS

Foam floats are used in swimming lessons in order to help beginners have confidence with floating on the surface of the water.

5. FISHING BAIT

A fishing float- helping the fisherman distinguish when a fish has caught the bait.

6. BUOY

An inflatable object found in seas and oceans, with various uses including an anchoring point and safe water boundary markers, etc.

7. LIFE RING

Life rings are thrown into the water to help overboard passengers/crew members of swimmers, in order to help them float on the surface and prevent accidents/drowning.

8. LIFE JACKET

Life jackets are worn to help aid buoyancey on the surface of the water and prevent drowning- particularly useful when worn by people with disabilities and/or those who cannot swim- a safe aid for those who may not be able to swim when in danger.

9. HELIUM

The gas element, Helium, most commonly used with balloons, is pumped into objects to help them float.

10. BALLOONS

See type about helium above- can also temporarily float with air (breath).

11. SWIMMING

http://upload.wikimedia.org/wikipedia/commons/4/45/Swimming.breaststroke.arp.750pix.jpg

Swimming upon the surface of the water to help maintain air circulation and buoyancy.

12. CARNIVAL FLOAT

http://media-cdn.tripadvisor.com/media/photo-s/01/14/f5/d8/1-of-many-floats-in-carnival.jpg

A style of carnival float- often promoting a business, company or institution as it is paraded in streets during an organised event or street party.

13. ICE CREAM SODA

http://indianapublicmedia.org/amomentofscience/files/2010/03/icecream-940x626.jpg

An ice cream soda- a fizzy, carbonated drink (often Coca Cola) combined with a scoop of ice cream for a creamy, rich drink- upon which the ice cream floats on the top of the drink (aptly nicknamed a "float") until it has melted- popular in America.

14. RUBBER RING

A popular lilo-like tire inflatable used for sitting in/upon and floating on the surface of the water, usually in a swimming pool.

15. LILO

An inflatable lilo (similar to a rubber ring- see above) which is used to help float upon the surface of the water (usually in the sea/swimming pool) and relax- usually sunbathing.

16. CORK

When placed in water, cork, like various other materials, floats.

17. WATER

Water- one of the two major elements (water and gas) which help materials to float- an example above of the boat floating on the surface of the water.

18. GAS

Various types of gases, such as helium, when pumped into objects such as balloons, enable them to float.

19. SNORKELLING

Floating on the surface of the water when snorkelling is important to ensure that air can still be taken through the snorkel mask pipe.

20. CANDLES

21. FISHING

In the sport of fishing, various floats are used to help the fisherman distinguish when bait has been caught, etc.

22. MILKSHAKES

24. CHEQUES

When a cheque is deposited the time in between the deposit and the deposit amount into the physical bank account is called a "float".

25. HOT AIR BALLOON

Hot Air Balloons are filled with gases in order to help them to float and cruise along the skyline, carrying passengers below in a woven wicker basket.

TASK IV// SITUATIONS

1. A duck floating upon the water.

2. A boat floating (sailing) upon the ocean.

3. When thrown to ducks, bread floats on the top of water.

4. Floating on the surface of the ocean/water with a life aid.

5. Fishing bait floats on the surface of water (to be visible to the fisherman when the bait is caught).

6. Life buoy floats when thrown into water.

7. Life rings float to prevent "rescuee" from drowning.

8. Life jacket is inflated with gas/air to help the "rescuee" avoid danger.

9. Helium is pumped into balloons to make them float.

10. Balloons float temporarily with air, and with helium float long-term/aerial descent.

11. Floating upon the surface of water when swimming.

12. A carnival "float"- showcasing events and organisations and paraded in streets in America in carnivals.

14. A scoop of ice cream in a fizzy drink (an ice cream soda) is referred to as a "float", as it floats on the top of the drink before melting.

15. Lilo floats on the top of the surface of a pool of water, and can be sat/sunbathed upon.

16. Cork floats and bobs on top of the surface of water.

17. Water is one of the material elements used to aid floating (boats/rubber rings floating on water, eg, etc.)

18. Gas is another of the material elements used to aid floating (eg, balloons, etc.)

19. Float on top of the surface of water to still take in air through a snorkel mask when snorkelling.

20. Special type of candles which float upon the surface of water.

21. Fishing floats are used along with bait to help the fisherman know when to reel in a catch.

22. Ice cream float in a milkshake (also see Ice Cream Soda).

23. Cash float taken to a craft fair- pot of money to use for change for giving change to buyers.

24. Cheque float- the days between depositing a cheque to when it is placed into a bank account.

25. Foam floats used in swimming lessons to help children to float with ease (with little training).

TASK V// TYPEFACES (X3 PT SIZES)

Experimenting with various typefaces to visually communicate my word- with three different point sizes- 10pt (average book/magazine pt), 30pt (mid way), and 72pt (1 inch measure on the page).
